Zebra Junction to Release Third CD and Kick-Off European Tour

Fans are invited to a series of unique release parties across the front range

Denver, CO -Profiled as one of the regions' top bands to watch in 2008, Zebra Junction is gearing up for the release of their third studio effort, Pomme de Terre.  Literally meaning "Apple of Earth", Pomme de Terre, captures the true unrefined nature of Zebra Junction, and showcases the band's use of unique hand made stringed and percussive instruments.  Their attention to musical detail will invoke reactions in a broad range of emotion, sending the listener on a journey of audio discovery.

A series of true revue release parties along the front range will feature performances from Boulder Acoustic Society, Ian Cooke, and Gregory Alan Isakov.  Boulder Acoustic Society will perform at each party, and Hodi’s Half Note will kick off the series on April 16, 2008.  The Denver release on April 19 will include circus sideshow acts, Ariel and burlesque performances from Lil Miss Firefly (standing at only 27 inches tall!) and The Junkettes (Miss Adrienne and Fannie Spankings).  Phelyx the magician will be on hand bending forks....and minds.  Pierre St. Pierre (Lannie's Clocktower Cabaret) will emcee the event, which will also feature live painting from Eric Matelski.   A finale’ performance on May 14 at The Fox Theatre in Boulder will serve as a celebratory send off for Zebra Junction’s 4th multi-city European tour.

Since their regionally respected release of Waterborne in 2005, Zebra Junction has branded their organic twist of eclectic Americana fare across the United States and abroad through multiple national and European tours. 2006 found the Zebra Junction buzz burning strong with the inclusion of their music on the Oskar Blues Brewery Singing 12 pack compilation, as well as placement with the soundtrack to Josh Blue's “7 More Days in the Tank”, which aired twice on Bravo!.  Zebra Junction kicked off 2007 with the band’s third consecutive nomination for a Westword Music Showcase Award in the "Jam/Improv" category.  The band also performed at The Paramount Theatre with national comedic presence, Josh Blue, and was invited to perform at the prestigious Film On the Rocks series, where the band played to a sold out crowd at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

About Zebra Junction

Working with a collection of rare, hybrid and homespun instruments, this power duo's Vaudeville approach includes "creative" percussion, baritone guitars, and such unconventional instruments as the banjo-ukulele, a hyper-modified Playskool tape deck used for "skratch", toy piano, and numerous samplers and effects to morph "old school" into "no school".

If Tom Waits fronted the White Stripes with a smattering of Radiohead technology, you might have a sound like Zebra Junction!

ZJ is honored to make the Westword Music Showcase Ballot again this year!  Please click here and help us win in our category of "Jam/Improv".

vote for ZJ in the ww music showcase awards

If you're unsure about who to vote for in the other categories, please consider voting for some of our friends like Oakhurst, Boulder Acoustic SocietyThe Inactivists, The Trampolines, Tempa and the Tantrums, and Something Underground.  We're bummed that some very deserving bands/musicians like Nicole Torres  (Singer Songwriter), Lawhead (Rock),and Remember May (Indie Rock) didn't make the ballot this year but you can manually fill them in which we would MUCH appreciate!  Saturday, June 16, we'll be playing in the Westword Music Showcase Festival which will be headlined by Dinosaur Jr.  We'll fill you in when we get the details.

This Friday - May 25, join our friends and collaborators Third Eye Media for one of their monthly multimedia events.  just south of Downtown Denver at 425 Lincoln Ave.  Live Music, Live painting, Dj's and more.  Show will start at 8 pm, 21+.  for more info contact Jeremiah:  jeremiahreddick@yahoo.com.  We'll be taking part in one of these events in the future, as well as collaborating with Third Eye Media on future video and movie soundtracks.

On July 13 we'll be playing our first show at the beautiful Paramount Theater w/ Josh Blue .  If you want tickets you'd better get them soon because this will most likely sell out!  We're shooting to release a full-blown collaborative music cd with Josh in the Fall (one's already in the can man) so keep your eyes peeled for that!Josh Blue Live In Concert at the Paramount Theatre July 13, 2007

All the best!

January 2007
Happy new year everyone - thank you so much for making 2006 such a landmark year for us! We had an amazing show at the newly renovated Appaloosa. We played two sets and cross pollinated with Oakhurst - from across the room! They were on a different stage and we had a great time performing songs with them with a sea of dancers in between the two stages. Thanks to all who joined us!
Have you seen the "7 More Days In The Tank" yet? Josh Blue's DVD includes two Zebra Junction songs! We'll be performing another show with Josh on Jan. 13 at Colorado Springs Pike Peak Center. More news to come.

Greetings all!
It's been a wild Summer to say the least! June 16 we finally got to play the Fox Theater in Boulder. Except for the bucket falling apart half way through our set it was great. We've been playing Monday nights at the Appaloosa on all Summer long. This gig has allowed us to really stretch out and try new things, jam with old friends like Nicole Torres, Sweet Music Villain, and even with old founding member Nate Norris. After good friend Josh Blue won The Last Comic Standing on NBC, ZJ got to open for 2 sold out shows at the Gothic Theater for his official DVD taping. Fortunately for us, we got to tape both of our sets with the aid of huge film crew! We're in the process of editing down the shows to make both a live demo and bootleg so keep your eyes and ears peeled for that. We've also got new t-shirts for sale thanks to the design of Waterborne artist Anna Mack. They are available at our live shows and through our website.

We're about to hit the road with good friends Oakhurst and hang out at the Hookahville Festival in Ohio for a few days. After that, we'll be flying to Europe on September 7 to spend 2 weeks on a tour bus doing shows both in venues and on the streets covering France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany (October Fest in Munich!!). The following 2 weeks we'll be in Switzerland to do a festival among other shows and maybe a little hiking and yodeling to boot. If all goes well, we'll be heading back in 6 months to hit more cities and countries. We'll be checking our email regularly so please keep in touch. We love that!

Micah and I will be flying into Boston on October 12 to do a few shows around Flitz's home state of New Hampshire and some fly fishing among the pretty Fall leaves. This will be ZJ's first time playing in the Northeast! We will most likely be sharing the stage with the absolutely insane band Up With Glue who happens to contain one of the original founding members of Zebra Junction, Erik Palmer. Ween eat your freakin' heart out! Then we'll be driving back to Denver in our new/used van and trailer to most likely do a Halloween show before heading out to the Northwest and Micah's home state of Washington to follow up on last May's tour. We're looking forward to seeing old friends and family! After spending Thanksgiving at the Lundy's, we'll be coming home to take a small rest and get ready for a groovy New Years Eve show.

On our last tour through Portland OR, we made friends with musician Stephen Cohen. He was in the process of recording a children's album and asked if we would want to add some tracks. We were like kids in a candy store because we were given total freedom to do whatever we wanted! Here Comes The Band is a beautiful album and definitely worth checking out! We'll be putting it on our website and Myspace very soon.

Thanks for all the love and support!!

Sincerely,

Zebra J and Zeb

May Newsletter 2006

Greetings all! We're back from our Northwest tour charged and ready for action! But first, some great news:

Zebra Junction made the Westword Music Showcase ballot under “Jam/Improv” which means a lot to us! You can help us out by going to www.westword.com/music06/ and voting for ZJ. Please don't try to cheat the system by voting more than once for these will be voided and we may lose your original vote. We'd really appreciate it if you asked your friends and family to help us win this fair and square. We're honored to be in the same category with such talented bands including White Water Ramble. I know that it's a bit biased on our half, but if you're not sure who to vote for in some of the other categories, please check out some of our friends and heroes like The Sputter (Jazz/Swing), DeVotchKa and Munly And The Lee Lewis Harlots (Avant-Garde/Eclectic), Melissa Ivey and Angie Stevens (Singer-Songwriter), Tempa and the Tantrums (Blues), Opie Gone Bad (Funk/Soul), Peace Officer (Reggae/Ska), and MOST importantly, Oakhurst (Roots/Americana) who are dear friends of ours who we just got off an amazing tour with. You guys rule!!

Oskar Blues Brewery -- the nation’s first micro canning craft brewery -- is releasing the latest installment in its Singing 12-Pack™ series. Starting May 18 (in Colorado only), specially marked Singing 12-packs of Dale's Pale Ale and Old Chub Scottish Style Ale will include a 12-song, limited-release (5,000 copies) compilation CD which was done in conjunction with Marquee Magazine, a Boulder, Colorado monthly music publication. Marquee’s staff selected the songs on the CD which include Colorado artists Great American Taxi (featuring Vince Herman of Leftover Salmon), neo-honky tonk heroes the Railbenders, rockabilly powerhouse 18 Wheeler, “porch music” aces Oakhurst, and yours truly, Zebra Junction. The new Singing 12-Packs will appear at select retailers along the Front Range area, including Applejack Wine & Spirits, Argonaut Liquors, Boulder Liquor Mart, Colorado Liquor Mart, Morgan’s Liquors, North Boulder Liquor Mart, Superior Liquor, Wilbur’s Total Beverage, Liquor Depot, Supermarket Liquors, Liquor Land, Twin Peaks Liquors and others. The nation’s first hand-canned craft beer, Dale’s Pale Ale has had numerous honors including “Top US Pale Ale” from the New York Times and “Top Colorado-Brewed Beer” from the Rocky Mountain News. Please go to www.oskarblues.com for more details including past bands that have been on this CD including Yonder Mountain String Band and Reverend Horton Heat.

We're NOT going to Europe in July as originally planned, but are heading over with Oakhurst for the month of September instead due to better gigging opportunities. Switzerland will be a major focus this time around. Maybe we'll see some of you there? We'll keep you posted as this and other tours develop including our first trip to New England in October.

2 up-coming shows worth noting are Thursday May 25 at Oskar Blues in Lyons Colorado where we'll be playing from 8-11. We will get an extra $5 for every person that brings in a copy of this newsletter. On June 16th we'll be at The Fox Theatre in Boulder Colorado opening for Oakhurst. We've been working towards playing this fine venue for years and it's finally going to happen! This is going to be a very special show for us so please don't miss it!! Please keep checking in at www.zebrajunction.com and www.myspace.com/zebrajunction for complete listings and details of these and other up-coming shows around Colorado and the rest of the world.

We just returned from a great 2 and half week, 14 show tour of the northwest with the Oakhurst boys. One of the big high lites included playing at Organized Noise in Micah's hometown of Ellensburg WA to a packed house! We got great responses everywhere we went and sold a record amount of CDs! We made lots of friends along the way and were taken in by some very sweet folks who let us sleep on their floors and fed us breakfast. Thanks Adrienne, Sonya, and especially the Lundys!! We got to hang with Tony Furtado a bit in his new home of Portland. With one of our 2 days off we got to sleep in a yurt near the Oregon coast line just outside of Florence and spent the day at the beach soaking up some rays. Montana was the most surprising place of all because of its sheer natural beauty! Thanks to all who signed our email list and bought our music. We look forward to seeing you again in August with lots of new music in tow!

Thanks for supporting live music. It means the world to us!

February Newsletter 2006

Greetings fellow music freaks, geeks, and humanitarians!

First, a couple of shows worth noting. Friday, February 10, we'll be at our regular jamming joint the Appaloosa on 16th and Welton in Denver where we'll be playing from 10-1AM. Saturday, February 11 we're at the Oriental Theater located at 4335 W. 44th Ave. in Denver where we'll be sharing the bill with our good friends Oakhurst and Armando Zuppa. Matt Kirk and company with be providing live art and Dbom will be projecting live video on their larger than life screen. Click here for all the details of this show.

We are very pleased to announce that we now have a manager. From now on, for bookings please contact Erin Cushenberry with Mountain Cush Productions at (720)435-1474. We'll still be using our (303)855-3650 number as well but we'd prefer you'd contact Erin directly.

Thanks to all who braved the snow to come out to the Peaceful Prairie benefit at the D-Note on January 19 and 99.5 the Mountain for plugging it so much. Tom Zingaro from the Reals did a great job lining the whole thing up and his music was outstanding.

Our first college gig which was at Angelo State University TX, was a great success! We appreciated how we had a room full of people paying close attention the entire show and at least half the people there bought CD s afterwards. It looks like we'll be making regular stops in San Angelo on our trips to and from Austin. We spent the night before in Austin with our good friend Clinton Fatter who we had met in Paris last summer. We got the grand tour of the city and we are looking forward to making Austin our second home someday. Tanx Clinton!

January 28 we played at the beautiful Mesa Theater in Grand Junction (the city that provided half of our name- no joke) with old friend and comedian extraordinaire, Josh Blue. We were fortunate to get Josh to break away from his Mind Of Mencia tour with Comedy Central's Carlos Mencia. High lights of the evening included Josh debuting his toy piano skills on Loaf n' Jugg and the ZJ/Blue rendition of the reggae classic Message To Rudy featuring Josh on slide whistle and Micah on up-right percussion. Thanks to David Prather and Mike Raftery for setting this up. We're looking forward to playing this outstanding venue again in the future.

Friday February 3, we played at Denver's infamous jazz club Dazzle sharing the stage with Vegas Witchcraft for a night of complete improv. Watch for us joining forces more in the future! This is a great opportunity for us to hone down our improvisation and communication chops, as well as try out new ideas outside the rigid frameworks of “songs”. Don't worry! We'll never lose sight of crafting good old fashioned tunes.

We'd like to congratulate our friends in Oakhurst for getting “Independent Band Of The Year” at the annual Hapiskratch Music awards ceremony held at the Walnut Room, as well as Armando Zuppa for getting “Acoustic Album Of The Year”. We're proud to have such outstanding musicians and human beings as our peers. Also, props out to Carmen Allgood at the Colorado Wave for getting “Radio Show Of The Year”. Thanks for playing our tunes Carmen!

Some future shows include playing the Lion's Lair with Bad Penny on March 11, Radio KRFC Live At Lunch in Fort Collins on April 5, a tour of the North West with Oakhurst the last week of April and first week of May, a couple of shows at Swallow Hill in the Spring, and Northern Europe for the month of July.

Oh yeah, and a brand spanking new Mack designed t-shirt is on the way soon! Thanks Chad for the first design. We hope to bring it back for another run some day.

If you haven't gotten our new CD Waterborne yet, go to the Mile High Music Store at Hapiskratch Music to get it today!

Thank you very much for supporting live music!! We look forward to seeing your faces again soon.

Sincerely,

Flitz Alan and Micah Lundy

Greetings all! We hope your holidays are going well thus far and are, like us, looking forward to a fruitful new year.

Leading up to New Year's Eve we rented a cabin up in Grand Lake Colorado for a few days followed by a one night stand at the Bears Den & Paws Pub (But we'll be back)

January 3 - We had a succesful show, the first of a series of shows with local comedic star Josh Blue at Sherpa & Yeti's in Breckenridge.

Looking forward to many more great shows in 2006

Thanks to all who were part of our Swalloween show at Swallow Hill back in late October. We had a blast sharing the stage with our friends the Reals and Armando Zuppa. We hope to make regular appearances at this fine venue and work with KCUV, Zuppa, and the Reals more as well. Look for photos from the evening to be on our website soon.

We spent most of November traveling around to different NACA (National Association for Campus Activities) trade shows introducing ourselves to the western U.S. college market. Our first show is at San Angelo State University TX and we're currently working on lining up many more for the Spring and Fall of 2006. We're also currently working on getting into the U.S. and European festival circuits so we plan on doing a lot of traveling in the coming year. It looks likely that we'll be spending the entire month of July in Europe hitting France, Belgium, and the Netherlands again but also Germany, England, and Ireland as well. Any and all leads and contacts in these countries would be MOST welcome!

Thanks to all who came to see our Christmas On Mars show at the Bluebird Theatre on December 23. It was our first official gig working with Oakhurst and overall it was a major success! It was very much like our Spin And Swirl Sessions series from a couple years ago in that there was lots of cross-pollination between the bands, and performance and live art mixed in all throughout the evening. Sierra, from the D-Note did an outstanding job putting together costumes in a pinch! Matt Kirk and Anna Mack with a few of their friends joined us again with live sculpture and painting. Look for more of these types of shows in the future! This show was audio and video taped so look for a possible bootleg as well. Watch for photos on the website soon!

What's in store for ZJ in 2006? We are shooting at playing MANY more shows than 2005 and are going to spread ourselves around the country a lot more. It looks like we'll be hitting the northwest and Northern Plains sometime around March and April. We'll be working on our next album release for the first several months of the year and will aim for a CD release sometime around July when we head over to Europe. Look for many more collaborations with the likes of Josh Blue, Oakhurst and the Reals.

Thanks again to all who crossed paths with us this year and gave us some of your energy and support. I hope we were able to give you some inspiration and a smile or two in exchange. We're back from Europe and will soon be heading to the west coast to begin a month long excursion of home state gigs and NACA trade shows across the country. If these shows go well we'll be playing a college campus near you next year at this time.

We made lots of new friends and contacts while in Europe and even managed to rustle up some gigs. It all began in Paris where we spent 2 solid weeks practicing and rearranging the tunes on Waterborne for the stage. These songs were taken to the streets and ultimately to The Beaver in downtown Paris. A chance meeting at a cafe connected us to a whole new scene and opportunities in Brussels. Great music town!

Amsterdam was where we had our most successful day as street musicians and provided us with 2 repeat gigs we had done 3 years prior at the Flying Pig and Aran. Made some new friends there as well and managed to catch a Medeski, Martin and Wood show at Melkweg. Next summer we will most likely add Ireland, England and Germany to our list!

Upon returning home we immediately began preparing for our CD release at the Walnut Room where we performed nearly every tune on Waterborne with many of the guests who sat in on the album. Joining us on stage were old friends Armando Zuppa on banjo, Pedro Castano on horn and percussion, Ken Arkind doing beat box, Chris Lawhead on flute, Steve Gaskin on percussion, and Mark and Dave from Lawhead adding keys and Tabla. Eric Matelski and Matt Kirk provided the live art for the evening and turned a lot of heads! Look for photos on the website!

We were really happy with the turnout! Thanks to all who came to support the bands. Lawhead opened the night announcing it was their final gig before escaping into the studio, and new friends Peace Officer closed it out with a super tight punky reggae party set. Look for us to be sharing the stage again up in Fort Collins in the near future!

Zebra Junction music is now available on iTunes! Welcome to the 21st century Zeb!!

We've got lots of new tunes in the works! Drop us a line sometime on the feed back page. We LOVE to hear from you!

Sincerely,

Flitz Alan and Micah Lundy

ZEBRA JUNCTION CD RELEASE PARTY AT

THE WALNUT ROOM

Zebra Junction, along with special guests Lawhead and Peace Officer, will host their official Denver CD release party at the Walnut Room located at 3131 Walnut St. Denver, on Saturday, October 22. Tickets are $5 and show time is 9PM. Ages 21 +.

Zebra Junction will perform several new songs off of their sophomore release Waterborne. Multi-instrumentalists Flitz Alan and Micah Lundy, along with some of the gifted artists who guest in on the album like Armando Zuppa, will re-create this multi-genred, bluegrass-inflected, experimental foot stomper.

Soon after finishing Waterborne, ZJ had the honor of opening up for the Film On The Rocks at Red Rocks Amphitheatre on August 2, followed by a 5 week tour of northern Europe. This will be one of Junction’s few Colorado appearances this Fall for they will be touring the U.S. coast to coast for the month of November.

2 outstanding bands from the Front Range will be sharing the bill: Lawhead (“…this generation’s answer to Jethro Tull.”) who will open the show, and closing out the night will be Peace Officer who can be described as “A Punky Reggae Party from the mean streets of Fort Collins, CO.” Also featured will be live improv painting from Eric Matelski.

Come and join Zebra Junction for their Denver CD release party along with Lawhead and Peace Officer, for an evening of top-notch entertainment at the Walnut Room located at 3131 Walnut St., Denver on Saturday, October 22.

“This is fresh, exciting, and sonically vibrant. I am so excited to not only enjoy Waterborne, but to have had Zebra Junction play Red Rocks. This is a must-have piece of art.”
Erik Dyce- Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Marketing Director

“This is a sick record!”

ZEBRA JUNCTION- 09/05/05

Flitz Alan of Zebra Junction here and I send you greetings from France! After one week of much needed R+R, it is finally time to write the August/September newsletter.

First, I would like to say “thanks” to all who came to see us play the Twist & Shout stage at Red Rocks on August 2. We apologize to those who couldn’t get in in time due to the very long lines of traffic. It ended up being a sold-out show!! A special thanks to all our musical guests and poets (Dwight Mark, Pedro Castano, Chris Lawhead, Ken Arkind and Soweto) for sitting in and getting down. Mother Nature tried to blast us off the mountain at times, but we stood our ground and put on a wild set as the place filled up. Click here for some photos of the show. If they aren’t there now, they WILL be soon!

The right planets must have been aligned because the first shipment of our new CD Waterborne was delivered at 2 PM the day of the show, making it an unofficial CD release party thanks to the hustle over at Hapiskratch Records. Thanks Morris! Click here for the many ways to get your hands on Waterborne the world over including Mile High Music, Best Buy, Circuit City and Amazon.com. They will soon be available in several music stores along the Colorado front range when we return from Europe in October.

To hear some Mp3s off of Waterborne, click here to visit the Listen page on our website and scroll to the bottom.

We got a disc over to 99.5 the Mountain the following Saturday, and were lucky enough to get 3 songs featured on Monday’s Mountain Homegrown Show. Thanks Jake!! Please tune in EVERY Monday from 10 to midnight and check out the amazing talent Denver has to offer. Click here if you want to hear it online elsewhere in the world. Drop them a line and let them know what bands you’d like to hear featured. Jake, please check out Lawhead. They’ll blow you away!!

Please check out our new MySpace site at www.myspace.com/zebrajunction. We would like to have all of you as friends as well as your friend’s friends! If you have a MySpace site, we’d love to network with you. Drop us a line and give us your thoughts on Waterborne if you’ve managed to get your hands on a copy. And/or click here to go to our website and let us know what you think of the album or to share your thoughts in general.

We’re in the process of booking several official CD release shows along the Front Range when we return in mid-October. As of yet, we’ve confirmed the Walnut Room (3131 Walnut St., Denver) on October 22 w/Lawhead and the reggae band Peace Officer. And we’ll be opening for Peace Officer at Conor O’Neil’s in Fort Collins on Thursday, October 13.

As I write this, I’m sitting on the exact same terrace at the exact same café where several of the lyrics on our new album were penned. Much of the music was also written just a block from here. Rotheneuf, a tiny village by the sea, is inspirational to say the least. The wine is cheap, the food is rich, its history is long and the pace is slow.

After a few days of rehearsal and lots of phone calls and emails, it’s off to Paris to begin our grass roots promotional tour of Waterborne. At the moment, it looks like our focus is going to be on France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. We are looking to network with as many people as we can while we are here, so please let us know if there are people you think we should get in touch with. We plan on hitting a lot of indie-radio stations, venues, open stages, promoters etc. in hopes of lining up a genuine performance tour for next summer. For those that haven’t heard, there is an outstanding appreciation for all types of music here! In the not so distant future, I plan to own a home/recording studio here for all of my friends and family to enjoy as well.

Last, but not least, as you all know New Orleans is in a terrible situation after hurricane Katrina. Some musician friends of ours who live there (Truckstop Honeymoon) just lost virtually everything they had and amazingly they are still doing the Colorado tour dates they have scheduled for September. Please come out and support, pay your cover charge, and donate to Truckstop Honeymoon on 9/28 at The D Note (7519 Grandview, Arvada) and 9/29 at Dulcinea's 100th Monkey (717 E. Colfax, Denver). Please put it in your calendar now! Listen to them on KRFC’s “Live at Lunch” on 88.9 FM in Fort Collins on September 26. They are an outstanding acoustic roots duo that I’ve seen tearing it up on Stage 7 at the Walnut Valley Bluegrass Festival in Winfield Kansas and they are anything but ordinary. They’ve got kids and really need your support!! Check out their website at www.truckstophoneymoon.com and support them there if you can’t make it to one of their shows. Thank you.

Please forward this letter to other likeminded folk, keep spreading the love and keep in touch! We look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Flitz Alan
